Expandable Storage Built from Standard Modules

Every standard container in our flat-pack storage range can be used as part of a linked configuration. Compatible units are assembled on site and connected using either a side-linking or an end-linking system.

Available base modules include:

  • 2 × 2 m Flat-Pack Storage Container
  • 3 × 2 m Flat-Pack Storage Container
  • 4 × 2 m Flat-Pack Storage Container
  • 5 × 2 m Flat-Pack Storage Container
  • 6 × 2 m Flat-Pack Storage Container

This modular approach allows the storage layout to be selected according to the available site dimensions, required capacity, access conditions and type of stored goods.

The dimensions used on this page are nominal commercial sizes. Exact external dimensions and internal clearances are provided in the technical drawing for each selected configuration.

The following configurations provide practical solutions for customers requiring more capacity than a single flat-pack container.

Side-Linked

3 × 4 m Side-Linked Flat-Pack Storage Container

Two 3 × 2 m modules connected side by side to create approximately 12 m² of nominal open-plan storage space.

Its practical, near-square layout is suitable for business inventory, furniture, tools, workshop equipment and general commercial storage.

Side-Linked

4 × 4 m Side-Linked Flat-Pack Storage Container

Two 4 × 2 m modules connected side by side to provide approximately 16 m² of nominal open-plan storage space.

This configuration provides additional capacity for machinery, bulky equipment, commercial inventory and larger stored goods.

End-Linked

6 × 2 m End-Linked Flat-Pack Storage Container

Two 3 × 2 m modules connected end to end to create approximately 12 m² of nominal continuous storage space.

The extended layout is suitable for construction materials, tools, stock and installations where the available width is limited.

End-Linked

8 × 2 m End-Linked Flat-Pack Storage Container

Two 4 × 2 m modules connected end to end to provide approximately 16 m² of nominal storage space.

Its extra-long internal layout is designed for pipes, timber, profiles, trade supplies, equipment and high-volume commercial inventory.

Side-Linked Flat-Pack Storage Containers

Side-linked containers are created by positioning compatible modules alongside each other. The adjoining side panels are omitted, and a purpose-designed linking system connects the base frames, internal floor sections and roof structures.

The result is one wider, open-plan storage area without a complete internal dividing wall. This layout is ideal for bulky goods, machinery, furniture, stock and applications requiring greater freedom of movement.

Available Side-Linked Configurations

Base Modules Resulting Nominal Size Nominal Floor Area
Two 2 × 2 m containers 2 × 4 m Approximately 8 m²
Two 3 × 2 m containers 3 × 4 m Approximately 12 m²
Two 4 × 2 m containers 4 × 4 m Approximately 16 m²
Two 5 × 2 m containers 5 × 4 m Approximately 20 m²

End-Linked Flat-Pack Storage Containers

End-linked containers are installed in a straight line to create a longer, continuous storage space while maintaining the standard nominal width of the base modules.

The adjoining end panels are omitted, and an end-linking kit connects the floor, base frame and roof structure. This arrangement is suitable for long materials and for sites where increasing the width is not practical.

Available End-Linked Configurations

Base Modules Resulting Nominal Size Nominal Floor Area
2 × 2 m + 2 × 2 m 4 × 2 m Approximately 8 m²
3 × 2 m + 3 × 2 m 6 × 2 m Approximately 12 m²

How the Container Linking System Works

Linked storage structures are assembled from compatible flat-pack modules and a matching linking kit. The exact components and assembly procedure depend on whether the units are connected from the side or from the end.

  1. Prepare a level and suitable installation base.
  2. Assemble the galvanized steel base frames.
  3. Install the external wall panels while omitting the panels at the intended connection.
  4. Position and align the container modules.
  5. Secure the base frames using the specified linking components.
  6. Connect the floor sections at the joint.
  7. Install the roof-support and roof-connection components.
  8. Fit the external roof-joint protection.
  9. Install the remaining panels and access doors.
  10. Check alignment, fixings, access and weather protection.

Installation should follow the assembly instructions supplied for the selected model and linking configuration.

Exact dimensions, component details and internal clearances vary according to the selected module and linking arrangement.

Galvanized Steel Construction

The structural frames, profiled wall panels and connecting components are manufactured from galvanized steel. This provides a durable and practical enclosure for outdoor, commercial and industrial storage.

The galvanized finish helps protect the steel against corrosion, while the bolted construction system reduces the need for permanent site welding and supports future dismantling or relocation.

Durable OSB Flooring

OSB flooring panels are installed over the galvanized steel base frames to provide a practical internal storage surface.

Special joining components are fitted where the modules meet to create a continuous transition between the connected floor sections. Alternative floor finishes may be considered for projects with specific loading, moisture or operational requirements.

Secure and Configurable Access

Outward-opening steel doors help preserve the usable internal floor area and provide convenient access to stored goods.

Depending on the selected layout, access options may include:

  • A primary door at one end
  • Access doors at both ends
  • Separate access points for connected modules
  • Additional side doors
  • Alternative door positions
  • Access ramps
  • Upgraded locking systems

Door quantities and positions should be confirmed before manufacturing.

Available RAL Colour Options

Linked storage containers can be supplied in powder-coated RAL colours to complement company branding, site requirements or the visual identity of a self-storage facility.

  • RAL 9005 – Jet Black
  • RAL 7021 – Black Grey
  • RAL 7016 – Anthracite Grey
  • RAL 5011 – Steel Blue

Custom Multi-Unit Configurations

The standard tables show configurations created by connecting two modules of the same size. Depending on the project requirements, additional compatible modules may be connected to create larger storage spaces.

Custom systems may include:

  • More than two connected modules
  • Multiple access points
  • Combined storage zones
  • Custom shelving and racking layouts
  • Facility-specific colour schemes
  • Layouts prepared for future expansion

Custom configurations are subject to technical review based on the required dimensions, number of modules, site conditions and intended use.

Linked Containers for Self-Storage Facilities

Linked containers allow self-storage operators to offer larger unit sizes alongside standard individual storage containers.

A facility can combine:

  • Compact standard storage units
  • Wide side-linked units
  • Long end-linked units
  • Custom multi-module storage spaces

This gives operators greater flexibility to serve customers storing furniture, household contents, business inventory, machinery, renovation materials or oversized equipment.

The modular approach also supports phased facility expansion according to available space and customer demand.

Efficient Flat-Pack Transportation and Restricted-Site Access

Linked structures are transported as individual flat-pack modules and linking components rather than as one fully assembled oversized unit.

This reduces transport volume and allows components to be moved into locations where access for a fully assembled container may be restricted.

Typical installation locations include:

  • Enclosed yards
  • Areas behind existing buildings
  • Narrow site entrances
  • Construction compounds
  • Industrial facilities
  • Remote project locations
  • Sites with limited lifting access
